Inspirational Thursday-Write a Letter
February 14, 2013
Happy Valentines Day!!
I have a little story to share with you today. Last week, one of our young associates came into my office to chat during her break. She was feeling very sad because her boyfriend, was being deployed over-seas. She shared with me her concerns, and excitement at the possibility of going to visit in the Summer and then she said we are going to write to one-another.
"Write? really?" I replied as I looked at her a little dubious.
" Oh Yes! there is nothing like writing or holding a letter, so much better than texting." She genuinely smiled at me as she clasped her hands together.
"Do you really mean this?" I asked, as I peered over my reading glasses.
"Why of course," she responded, "My Mom shared some letters Dad had written her and I want to have something like that when I'm old."
This conversation took me back to another time...
My generation wrote many letters.
We wrote to classmates and tucked the letter in their lockers.
We wrote to boyfriends while we were at Church Summer Camp.
We wrote to our best friends when we ventured off to college.
We wrote to Mom and Dad when we moved away from home.
I clearly remember the anticipation of waiting for a letter...
Nothing speaks so clearly to the soul as the written word.
So, I challenge each one of us to write a letter today.
To a friend-let them know you care.
To a child-sharing with them the meaning they have given to your life.
To a Parent-letting them know how much you love them.
To a spouse- acknowledging all the years of commitment to your unity.
So, I will begin by thanking those of you who I am becoming to know through this wonderful world of blogging. Thank you to those who read my blog-who inspire me, make me smile, make me laugh, share experiences, thoughts and crafts. Thank you for letting me into your world, for the opportunity to know you!
Happy Valentines Day with Love!

Inspiration,
Jemma, I guess we're thinking along the same lines these days. I'm a letter lover and saver and blogged about that very thing myself.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day!
I too love the written word. My Mom saved letters I wrote her when i was pregnant with my first child and gave them to me years later. They are a treasure I could never replace. I think I will take you up on this and write a letter to my oldest daughter today! Hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteDear Jemma, you have written beautifully. I am also pleased to write to you and to learn English. Thank you and I wish you well happy Valentines day! Greetings... Dorothea
ReplyDeleteYou know I think letters and talking are wonderful - it sometimes worries me with all the technology out there. Very nice. Happy Belated Valentine's Day! ♥
