Earth Day 2016
April 22, 2016
Forty six years ago today began the modern environmental movement, which we
now refer to as Earth Day.
I have curated a few little projects with links included that you can easily make today or this
weekend along with a little history too.

A tutorial on how to make a fashionable hat, from one of my favorite bloggers and she just happens to be my daughter:) smiles...Samantha from Crafty Texas Girls.
(That is my granddaughter modeling her hat!)
Earth Day and recycling go together, right?
Did you save those plastic Easter eggs...such a cute project from
Angie at the Country Chic Cottage.
Maybe crafting is not your "thing," but baking is.
Just look at these edible and "earth friendly," confection delights.
Thanks so much~ Taimmilee Tips.
Debbie from Confessions Of A Plate Addict shares her tutorial on these pretty decoupage pots.
With Fairy gardens the rage for any age, just look at this one with night lights included!

"The height of counterculture in the United States, 1970 brought the death of Jimi Hendrix, the last Beatles album, and Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” War raged in Vietnam and students nationwide overwhelmingly opposed it.
At the time, Americans were slurping leaded gas through massive V8 sedans. Industry belched out smoke and sludge with little fear of legal consequences or bad press. Air pollution was commonly accepted as the smell of prosperity. “Environment” was a word that appeared more often in spelling bees than on the evening news."

Happy Earth Day! We recycle everything that we can and it literally pains me when I see neighbors put things in the regular trash that could so easily be recycled. We have curbside recycling and we don't even have to separate things, so they've made it as easy as possible. That hat your granddaughter is modeling is fabulous!!! Love these ideas!
ReplyDeleteHappy Earth Day! very cute projects. Hope your weekend is fabulous
ReplyDeleteI'm not doing anything special to celebrate Earth Day today, but I simply try my best to live consciously and leave a smaller footprint every day. There's still more I can do, of course, as I'm sure we all can. You posted some great ideas!
ReplyDeleteFun projects for the occasion! I guess we have come a ways in our quest to save the earth over the past few decades, but we have far to go! Happy Earth Day, Jemma :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Earth Day! Love the hat!!

Susan and Bentley
Jemma, I want one of those fairy gardens! hehehe I LOVE that first picture of Earth Day! Your granddaughter looks so festive and darling wearing her hat. The decoupage pots are soooo pretty, and I'll pass the idea along to the girls, as they sometimes do craft projects. And these cookies!!! Very clever, and they sure do look good.
ReplyDeleteYour posts are always filled with inspiration, Jemma, with so many creative and wonderful ideas.
love, ~Sheri
ps one of my favorite quotes of all time is written by Jimi Hendrix. :)
Happy Earth Day to you!! Am enjoying your gorgeous posts on Facebook.

ReplyDeleteThey are as sweet as they can be. Happy Earth day to you sweet one. xo
ReplyDeleteHappy Earth Day. the post is great and idea's terrific.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy day.
Mary
I remember the gas guzzling days and the long lines to get it, too. I am so happy we have all become a little more "Earth conscious!" :) Happy day!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the Easter egg project, it was truly a 'duh' moment. They would look cute in a fairy garden maybe. Perhaps a bit too big depending on the project, but for larger gardens just perfect. I've been collecting miniatures lately and I have just about the perfect place for them inside a hollowed out tree.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend to you Ms. Green Thumb ;).

Lots of fun projects here! I love those little pots. It reminds me, I should start foofing up peat pots again. just because I can! Happy day and weekend, Jemma!
ReplyDeleteHello Jemma, cute projects for Earth Day. I like the recycled eggs and cookies. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteOne day my neighbor said " we aren't the recycling type." I wonder what on Earth that means! We have a curbside bin-no sorting! Could not be easier to do our part to recycle. You already roll out the trash. Why not a second bin? I don't get it! Happy Earth Day!
ReplyDeleteJemma,
ReplyDeleteSweet post. I truly try to live everyday with consciousness of Earth Day and respecting Planet Earth. Your post is a fun gentle reminder of the importance.

Vera
These are really neat projects! When my kids were young we celebrated Earth Day every year with friends having picnics in parks with educational crafts such as these and nature walks. I hope these sort of activities make our children more aware, they are the future.

Jemma,
ReplyDeleteGreat post with all the links to DIY projects... Thanks for the reminder about Earth Day. Talking about values we hold dear is the only way to insure they continue and are not lost over time.
