At Home With Jemma Fall Home Tour
October 04, 2016
Time marches on so very fast, I still cannot believe that last year at this time we were still in our apartment for the Autumn Retreat Tour. I remember counting down the days until our new home would be completed and you were all giving me kind encouragement!
It is not just our home that brings us comfort, it is our interaction with nature.
We moved from our home in the suburbs which was very nice.
But our 2 acres has given us a chance to reflect and cherish those sunrises, sunsets and the blue sky even more.
Being close to nature is essential for me and my well being, I really will always believe it is having been raised as a farmers daughter.
We debated so much on paint choices and chose to keep our paint colors colors neutral.
I enjoy a soft and gentle paint palette I find it calming and at the same time it has given us the opportunity to add vibrant color in accessories, art, flowers and other décor options.
I love color and I enjoy adding it where I want it and then being able to take it away when I am in the mood for another shade.
Today you are going to see quite a bit of Fall color in the most fantastic shades and presented in the form of flowers and such.
Below you will see some hydrangeas, which I dried from those wonderful pink blooms I had last Spring.
I enjoy adding color to this milk washed distressed serving tray which rests on our coffee table in the family room.
Our zinnias fresh from the garden add a punch of Fall color along the way.
I have several crosses displayed in our home, they are loving gifts from my family and friends they bring me comfort and joy.
Keeping in tune with the French Country theme and my love of flowers we had this metal door custom made with the fleur- de- lis design. (In French fleur means flower lis means lily)
I made this Blue and Orange Monogram Autumn Wreath wreath earlier in the season when I was begging the heat to go away.
My Dragon Wing begonia is in complete heaven now that the weather has cooled and if you look in the back corner by the angel you will see Euphorbia, also known as Texas Baby's Breath.
My plants were such troopers in the humidity and heat.
Flowers make all the difference to any space, any time.
Always treat yourself to a bouquet when you go the grocery.
I have often times purchased the discounted bundles of flowers (if they were discounted enough and the majority of flowers were still alive!)
Also, purchase a big bouquet and divide it into several smaller bouquets.
My dining room dances in flowers.
My father was an avid angler who won many fishing contests for catching the largest trout.
I purchased this large porcelain soup tureen in honor of him many years ago in Kalispell Montana. Kalispell is a town close to Glacier National Park.
The rainbow trout which is on this tureen is such a gloriously colored fish and I think the orange of the pumpkins brings out the colors so nicely on it's tail.
I am really enjoying my working kitchen, it really is the heart of our home and it is a dream to be in and cleans up really well too.
Love my orange Dutch oven, a gift from the kids many years ago-it comes to a really great boil and then simmers so well, I can make a really fine gumbo in it too.
That reminds me, I have a homemade vegetable stock recipe to share with you this week-don't let me forget...
A very heartfelt thank you to Katie from Let's Add Sprinkles for gathering us together!
Happy Fall Ya'll!
That was beautiful - I knew your home told a story and I'll never forget the first time I saw that door, that swirled detail was a welcome to even more amazing details. I completely agree about fresh flowers in the home - it's so important and really allows a space wake up. Thanks for sharing I really enjoyed this - you're a beautiful person Jemma with a wonderful heart.

Carole,
DeleteThank you, we enjoyed the process of building and the challenge of bringing all the details together. The 2 acres is the icing on the cake-now I just need a lavender farm:)
Looks so warm and welcoming, Jemma. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you Katie, we enjoy our spot of joy among the trees!
DeleteKatie, you are a no-reply blogger, so I am difficulty reaching you to inform you of your Art win, please e-mail me!
Hi Jemma, I've so enjoyed your lovely fall tour with all the special touches. The flowers certainly add so much to the warmth and cozy welcome. Right from the front door and your gorgeous wreath, your home speaks welcome in to friends and family! The special treasures like the soup tureen and the dutch oven bring in charm and fall color. Like you, I too love a neutral palette for the canvas of my home. Changing out the color and accents make decorating fun!! Your home is beautiful and I so enjoyed my visit. Thank you for sharing in our tour. Have fun visiting our friends this week.

Your home is lovely, Jemma. I remember last year's home tour and how you weren't in here yet -- not for real! And now here you are, settled, happy and oh, so beautiful. I love how you have added color in so many delightful ways and with so many creative touches. Yes, I'm a flower-buyer, too, especially after the garden stops yielding its blooms. They get me through the winter! I couldn't live without my Dutch Oven either -- love your cheery orange, especially at this time of year!

I think your home just has a huge smile and a warm welcome to it, much the same as you! I love that door and all of your plants made it through our horrid heat. Your kitchen is a dream...I can imagine how nice it is to be in there preparing drinks or food. I so agree with you about the fresh flowers! My favorite aunt always had the most gorgeous lawn and flower beds...that was like her therapy. She always had fresh flowers in her home and I think that's where my love of them began. I think of her each time I buy flowers!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your gorgeous home with us!
xo

What a lovely tour of your Fall home, Jemma! I just love all the color using flowers in your vignettes. That is a beautiful front door, and your wreath is gorgeous. My dad was a fisherman, too. He was a Bass Pro with lots of tournament wins, and even made and sold rods as quite a nice retirement income supplement. I love seeing your warm and inviting home every time you give us a glimpse.
ReplyDeleteWarm hugs,
