What Is A Cobbler?
A cobbler is a dessert consisting of a fruit filling poured into a large baking dish with a rich buttery batter. Batter can be poured on the bottom of the dish or on the top of the fruit filling and then it is baked.
Even though by using fresh peaches this is a summer dessert, it can be enjoyed year around by using canned peaches too.
Homemade Fresh Peach Cobbler
How To Make This Fresh Peach Cobbler
Yield: 4-6 servings
- Total Time: 1 hour 20 minutes
- Prep Time 40 minutes
- Active time 35-40 minutes
- Baking 350 degrees
Ingredients For Peach Cobbler Filling
- 5-6 medium peaches peeled and sliced
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Directions For Filling:
- Place peaches, sugar, cinnamon, salt and lemon juice in a medium size saucepan.
- Cook over medium heat until sugar is dissolved and the peach juices begin to boil.
- Turn cooktop to low and gently simmer for 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat
Ingredients For Batter:
- 1 Cup sugar
- 1 Cup flour
- 1 Tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 Cup milk at room temperature
Directions For Batter:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Cut butter in chunks and place in a 9x13 baking dish and place in the oven while it preheats.
- Keep an eye on the butter so it does not overheat.
- In a medium size bowl whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
- Stir vanilla into the milk.
- Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients while whisking until well combined.
Directions For Assembling and Baking Peach Cobbler
- Remove baking dish with melted butter from oven and pour the batter evenly over butter.
- Pour peach mixture over the top of the batter.
- Bake in 350 degree oven for 35-45 minutes.
- Peach cobbler should be golden brown on top and peach juices are bubbling.
- Don't overbake.
- Cool to room temperature before serving.
- Add a dollop of ice cream if desired.
