Easy Holiday Peppermint Bark

December 14, 2021

Peppermint Bark has become one of my favorite Holiday candies and once you discover how easy it is to make it might just become your favorite candy of the season too.

With only 4 ingredients in this festive recipe it certainly makes this Holiday candy all the sweeter.

I just love the combination of semi-sweet chocolate melted then mixed with melted white chocolate and topped with crushed peppermint, oh wait don't forget the peppermint extract too!

How To Melt The Chocolate In A Microwave

  • Place the chocolate chips or melting chocolate (both work equally well) in microwave bowl.
  • Heat on medium in increments of 30 seconds.
  • Remove the bowl from the microwave after each 30 second increment and stir.
  • Since we are melting a lot of chocolate get all of the chocolate mixed well-you might have some melted chocolate stuck to the bottom of the bowl.

Seized Chocolate (OH NO!)

Have you ever melted chocolate and took it from silky smooth to grainy and pasty?

I am raising my hand! Yes this has happened to me and when it has it all went into the garbage.
Seized chocolate is a mess.
I suppose it happens to me much less now than in my early years of cooking and for a variety of reasons.
I am not really pressed for time and I have learned from trial and error.
Best advice I can share is take the process of melting chocolate slow and never ever allow any water to drip into the melting chocolate.

How To Melt Chocolate On The Stove-Top

  • Easiest way is to use a double boiler.
  • You can purchase a double boiler or make your own!
  • Use a large saucepan and fill it about a quarter full of water.
  • Bring water to boil.
  • Turn temperature down so water is just steaming
  • Place a smaller saucepan over the top of the steaming water.
  • Add chocolate and stir.

Williams and Sonoma Peppermint Bark

We have Williams and Sonoma to blame for this almost cult following of Peppermint Bark Candy.
They enticed our palates with this simple and yet incredible combination of classic Holiday flavors back in 1999.
Throughout the years folks have waited in line to grab their tin of peppermint bark for themselves and for gift-giving too.
