Twas The Night Before Christmas
December 18, 2021
Merry Christmas Countdown Friends!
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house not a present was wrapped,
The Mom in the attic searching for bows,
In the spirit of the season and in the mindset of many younger homemakers I am sharing Twas The Night Before Christmas.
Although my children are all grown now, I certainly remember many a Christmas season like this one.
Rebecca ( my daughter, penned this poem.)
We both hope this tale brings a little smile and whimsy to your day.
She and I have had shared many chuckles over her version of the classic poem by Clement Clark Moore.
Twas The Night Before Christmas |
not even a blouse.
The school parties had ended, all of their remnants thrown in a chair.
They'd gone off flawlessly, thanks to mom's care.
The children were nestled all snug in their parent's bed,
While mom made coffee to calm her head.
And Mamma in her athleisure and dad in his joggers asleep on the floor.
He had just watched the same Christmas movie for the 9th time and found it a bore.
When out in the kitchen there arose such a clatter,
dad sprang from his sofa to see what was the matter.
Away to the oven he flew like a flash.
Mom's cookies were burning and the dog was in the trash.
Holiday Star Sugar Cookies |
The Mom in the attic searching for bows,
Found unopened presents from last year in the insulation snow.
When what to her wondering eyes should appear, but her dishelved appearance in an old rusted mirror.
Her hair was a mess, her complexion looked sick!
She reached in her pocket, some lipstick did the trick!
Christmas Home Tour |
More rapid than eagles, the faster she moved.
Throwing tape and paper and even some glue!
LOL dolls! Barbies! Lego's and trains!
iPads and popits, some weird video game.
Twas The Night Before Christmas A Modern Day Tale |
As a psychotic appearance took over her eyes,
she knew she could pull off this Christmas, she just had to try.
So down to the kitchen, her legs they flew!
She made fresh cookie dough and the dog helped too!
Herbie The Baker |
And then in a twinkling she heard on the stairs, the startle of a cry for momma and
questions of where.
She climbed up the stairs, a little in tow,
she looked down into the living room and longed for her cup of Joe.
Afton, Maisy and Molly Singing |
She climbed into a twin bed and sand songs about being merry.
She felt her heart beginning to grow very weary.
Handmade Pompom Wreath |
Her eyes felt heavy, her lipstick was smeared,
but she drug her feet and crept backdown the stairs.
She inhaled her coffee and clenched her teeth,
she even felt enough energy to make a new wreath.
The cookies got frosted, the assembling was done.
Mom was exhausted, but next came the morning's breakfast buns.
She searched for the Tylenol bottle,
Feeling like Chevy Chase was her role model.
The dog winked his eye and gave a twist of his head,
she knew she'd gone crazy it didn't even need to be said.
The mom prayed for a miracle, someone to handle this work,
how did Pinterest women do this, she felt like a jerk!
The elf needed to be moved, triple batteries to be found,
the Christmas cards still unaddressed had fallen to the ground.
Sweet Grandchildren embracing the Season of Joy |
But the Mom pulled it off, as only Moms do.
With cut out snowflakes and the power of Tylenol too.
Merry Christmas To All! |
She did all her work, then finally shut her eyes, for a whole hour before the sun filled the sky.
And then the pattering of each little foot, the squeals, the excitement, their joyful looks.
It made it all worth it, the craziness and stress.
The wrappings and trappings and big Kitchen mess.
As the living room filled with laughter and cheer,
she said; "I can't wait to do this again next year!"
Rebecca and Family |
Merry Christmas to all and to all a Good night!
